Library Classroom
What to expect
All first and second grade students visit the Library Classroom once a week in addition to their weekly book exchange in the library.
The purpose of the library classroom is to teach students how to navigate the world of information literacy. We teach Common Sense's Digital Citizenship curriculum, coding, STEAM skills, and research. We also cover the difference between fiction and nonfiction, call numbers, and provide an introduction to the Dewey Decimal System. Students learn how to select appropriate resources, pull information from those resources, and apply what they've learned in authentic ways.
The skills that we teach in the library classroom establish a solid foundation for students to continue to build upon through the duration of their educational journey in the Garnet Valley School District.
